LUC MAUBON COMPANY « The stage opens itself to the spirit inside sugar canes which becomes the dancers' gift to the audience.
In this communion the audience approaches the universe of the living through dance.
The audience shares the purified breath of a presence while experiencing the void that inhabits movement. »   Marthe Barris

LO KOR KANNE CANNE EMBODIED  created 2016 Reunion Island

CAST

A choreographic composition by Luc Maubon which was performed on December 9 2016 in the Léspas Leconte de Lisle Theater in St. Paul Reunion Island.

The show benefitted from an artist's residence, cultural mediation, and a coproduction with the Léspas Leconte de Lisle Theater in St.Paul. It was financed by the Reunion Region (local authorities).

The choreographic composition vibrates in a state of togetherness
between the dancers, the musicians, and natural elements.

Tuned into forgotten languages Lo Kor Kanne Canne en corps embodied questions and explores movement in the heart of natural elements. From a land of creation and research the Cane blends a history of dance, music, images, and light. Cane-Body, Cane-Roots, and Cane-Poetry dialogue and inspire one another in a poetic, transcultural, and symbolic dimension.

To open the evening a performance staged by Luc Maubon with dancers and musicians from the Moringue Batay Coq in Villèle School introduces the audience to the show.

3 minute excerpt

« Everything starts with the Moringuer's song outside at night. To the beat of an instinctual rhythm we are invited to follow a group of youths who lead us to the vibrant circle of the Maloya. Sweeping across twilight spotlights skim over the stage while the group from the "Batay Kok" Moringue School in Villèle celebrates a dance of revolt. The circle closes on a battle where the bodies shine in a choreographed combat »

Halima Grimal

«It is a cosmogonic work.»

«By refocusing on the intimacy of the island paradoxically the show opens itself to what is universal thanks to enlarging spaces, to creating a link with sensitive languages, to giving itself the means for movement, images, music, light, and canes to resonate in the heart of a land in the middle of the ocean. To celebrate canes through dance, with canes, for canes, beyond the choreography, is to retrace steps so as to walk where the path has disappeared and the memory has been lost.»

Marthe Barris

«In a simple manner Luc Maubon's choreography poses the artisitic word in our memories and daily lives.»
Marthe Barris

« Luc Maubon's Company brings us spiritual sustenance. We witness dance meeting poetry. It represents an essential breath. »
Halima Grimal

«Thanks to its delicacy the show reveals a ritual and emotional force that helps us to penetrate an interior, far away land and to reconnect with the peace brought by wind in sugar cane fields. Like a ford it enables us to cross our memory and to continue on with consciousness»
Marthe Barris
